  • At A restaurant---------

Tatiana: Do you eat like an American?

    Me: I guess so

Me: huh? what do you mean?

Tatiana: You use your knife for only a little bit

Me: (I look down at my clean knife and glance at Tatiana's dirty one) Yeah I guess so

( I also stare at everyone around me using a knife in one hand and fork in the

        other, using them together)

The whole time I've been here I never noticed how the people eat.

Now I'm in Barcelona.  I'm about to go out and explore the city.

  • What do Spanish People like:

Dogs, ( everyone is walking their dogs taking them to the coffee

        shops and grocery stores)

Converse shoes (everyone has them from Grandma to the baby,

        I´m not kidding!)

PORK! ( everyone has a HUGE pork leg on their counter, I´ll post a pic later)

    Coffee

Going to bed late ( Maghrib is at 10:15 PM in the summer time!)

Ballet shoes (I bought myself a silver pair, ´cause the sales lady

        said it was the trend)

Accessories (Everyone wears scarves, belts, long necklaces)

    Driving a stick-shift ( I haven´t met a person who drives automatic)

Tile for the garage ( they say it keeps it cleaner)

    What Spanish people don´t like

Carpet ( every home has tile or wood b/c carpet is dirty)

Burping ( it is REALLY rude to burp in public)

Wasting water and electricity ( real serious about saving energy)

I can´t think of anything else...

  • Shortly after the Virginia tragedy, I was bombarded with questions, me being an American, Why does the United States allow guns?  They kill people.  Why do people want them?  They allow you to have a gun at 18 but not drink? ( is it 18?-I don´t remember) How come the government doesn´t do anything? George Bush??? Ban guns!!What a joke. I never really thought about it. Because owning a gun is a large part of American culture (especially Texas culture). Guns are banned in Europe.  No one is supposed to have a fire weapon unless it´s hunting season (October to November).  Then, you have to have a note from the doctor saying you are mentally healthy, you are granted a permit and a gun, only used during hunting season.  The gun is returned afterwards.

You hear it on the radio and tv, read it in the newspaper, Why does the US allow guns for the public?  I really didn´t know how to explain why people want guns.  I try to say, well, for protection.  Or hunting.  Sport?  I honestly don`t know.  I don´t have one, and I never want one.  I think the United States should ban fire weapons. There would be less crime and school shootings, drive by shootings, and possibly deaths overall.

(LOOK Auchan moved to Spain! j/k)

On Sunday, I went to a town called Santiago.  A very old town, with a huge cathedral.  I went inside the cathedral and there was a long line to some statue people were kissing and bowing down to.  At first I was waiting in line because it was at the entrance and I couldn't´t see why they were in line, once I saw, I walked around them and into the cathedral.  Once I was in, and I could see a HUGE shrine strait ahead.  It was a beautiful shrine, but kind of creepy too.  The cathedral was really nice and so BIG, I couldn't´t believe.  On my way, walking from the bus station to the cathedral there were people standing outside their restaurants giving out delicious sweets.  I was full of desserts by the time I made it to the old town.  I think the cathedral was build around 1057 AD.  I just loved the architecture of all the old buildings.

Yesterday I went to a museum and to the beach.  The water is sooo beautiful! A wonderful blue-green color.  I wish I was able to get in, but too cold.  Whenever I go into town I get lost! The roads are nothing like in Houston, so perfectly strait making perfect squares around the city.  Here, at an intersection you are looking at 6 or 7 different ways to choose from! But, thank God the people here are awesome and always leading me into the right direction.  Here are a few more pics,
